By July, runoff is a distant memory and the Missouri River is alive with PMDs, caddis, hoppers, ants and tricos. Guests at the Missouri River Ranch love wade fishing our 1.5 miles of private river frontage after dinner and catching a few more risers! Dry, sunny weather has anglers flock to Craig for the chance to fish epic hatches in a picturesque Montana summer.
Every bend of the river has a different bug hatching this time of year, and the stable flows make July a dry fly paradise. Whether hitting the mid-morning hatch, or wade fishing the sunset to pods of rising fish, this time of year will keep the dry fly angler busy all day long!
Nymphing in July remains outstanding and is a great way to put fish in the net on busier runs. Dry-dropper fishing can be a great way for anglers to benefit from the outstanding bug life this time of year!
Streamer fishing slows as summer fishing begins to ramp up, but with the consistent action of July more than makes up for that fact. Streamers will return to the menu as fall approaches.
