The Missouri continues to be in fine shape as hatches of caddis have brought fresh activity to the river! Flows are topping 5,000CFS with the river running clear. Precipitation is in the forecast, so keep an eye on potential discharge from tributaries like Prickly Pear & the Dearborn. Water temperatures are hovering around 51°F and bug life is good to excellent! The upper river has been producing more consistent numbers of fish, but the boat traffic is heavier than the canyon sections.
Dry fly fishing is rejuvenated by the appearance of caddis on the lower stretches of the Missouri. Anglers are still taking fish on #18 BWOs, the occasional March Brown and now caddis.
Nymphing continues to be strong. With the slightly increased flows, anglers are lengthening their rigs slightly. Perdigons, caddis pupa, sow bugs and wireworms are all working.
Streamer fishing continues to produce fish and will be a great option over the next few days of variable weather. This is a great time of year to fish a streamer on a floating line with a sink tip.
