September is Holding on to Summer!

September 26, 2024

Gorgeous weather kept our anglers quite happy on the river this week, even if those warmer temperatures meant a little delay in fall fishing conditions. This weeks wildlife sightings included moose, bull elk battling it out, and some wonderful waterfowl. Flows are at 3,820 CFS  with water temperatures coming out of the dam at 59.9°F. Daytime highs will vary between 63°F-84°F over the next week.

Dry fly fishing is sporadic but providing pockets of opportunity. Most fish are being taken on Caddis, Ants, October Caddis and Callibaetis. We will need to see much colder temps to bring out the BWOs.

Nymphers are getting it done both short and deep. Sow bugs, worms, midges and perdigons are taking most of the fish. Bright, hot afternoons will find the big fish holding deep.

Streamer fishing continues to be strong despite warmer weather and clear skies. If you are willing to stick with the method, some nice fish can be pulled out right now. Just make sure to move it fast!

Drop us a line, and we'll see you soon at the ranch!
