It seems like everyone in Montana wants to be on the Missouri in May— and for good reason! As a tailwater, the Missouri is insulated from spring-time conditions that can make fishing in the rest of the west difficult (water temp, run-off, etc.). Relatively stable, clear water provides incredible spring-time opportunities. Anglers and guides flock from all over the state to chase giant trout in one of their best feeding months.
Dry fly fishing is stellar when flows and hatches sync up. BWOs, March Browns & Caddis can all take eager trout. Fish are not tippet-shy this time of year and can put up great fights.
May nymphing can be deep nymphing at times, but will keep rods doubled-over all day long. Sow bugs, perdigons and wireworms are all tickets to hooking into a beautiful Missouri River trout.
Streamer fishing a sink tip will produce beautiful browns and rainbows as they feed aggressively in one of the most active periods of spring. Anglers will enjoy the variety of methods available this time of year.
Drop us a line, and we'll see you soon at the ranch!
