Fly Fishing Update: What a week! The season opener to 2023 has us incredibly excited for the rest of spring. Two father & son trips kicked us off in incredible fashion, followed by some of our dearest friends and long-time guests. From one's first trout ever landed, to boating more than 30 fish in a day, our anglers were enjoying great action on the Missouri! Dry fly fishing is really heating up. Anglers that focus on soft water and recirculating eddies have had great success chasing heads! Fish are rising to midges and the occasional BWO. Drifts can be tough, so try lengthening your leader to buy you some time. With a watchful eye to the rain and flows, make sure your nymphs get down fast! Water flows bumped slightly to between 5,500-5,700 CFS this week, with water temperatures finally creeping over 40°F. 7' leaders to wire worms, tungsten beads and heavy point flies are the tickets to success. Keep the flies deep and drag free! Streamers are still working great! High-vis patterns with varied retrieves have been getting it done. Don't be afraid to switch it up and see what works.
Drop us a line and we hope to see you soon!
